ABOUT US

Roslyn Flag Football League (RFFL) is a non-contact, no-tackling or blocking league built to give kids in the Roslyn and East Williston School Districts a safe, fun, and competitively balanced flag football experience.

We emphasize fairness, sportsmanship, and community spirit by carefully forming balanced teams by grade and skill level, working closely with our volunteer parent coaches. Our rules, referees, and team setup are designed to create a positive, inclusive environment where kids can compete, learn, and grow.

We put an incredible amount of time and planning into every season. From scheduling around other local sports to making sure teams are balanced, we focus on giving every family the best possible experience. Our goal is simple: every player should develop their skills, build lasting friendships, and walk away excited for the next season.

By joining RFFL, your child will learn the fundamentals of flag football in a structured setting while becoming part of a tight-knit community that values teamwork, effort, and respect.

Additional Info & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We put an incredible amount of time and effort into every detail of this League. We get to know you and your kids personally. Our focus from the beginning is on the proper formation of teams, recruiting the best volunteer coaches, and scheduling consistency, with parental convenience being a top priority. We coordinate with the other Roslyn Sports organizations (Roslyn Baseball, Booster Basketball, PAL Hockey, etc.) to avoid as many conflicts as possible. Scheduling for each division will take all of these factors into account, as we know what the general conflicts are for each age group, as we determine the game times.

Our philosophy is to keep our team rosters manageable, so every child has the opportunity to play and participate. Our rules also differ from those of some other leagues, which, for the younger kids especially, are much more conducive to the enjoyment of flag football at this age. We also utilize experienced referees, who are multiple referees for each game, to help the kids and coaches, and have been part of RFFL for many years.

We have created the right blend of competitiveness while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and having a great experience. Unlike other leagues, we do not register full rosters. We do not create “all-star” teams or “friends” teams, but rather the league coordinates everything, and we work together with the parent coaches before the season to split the kids up in each division with the goal of creating fair and balanced teams by grade/skill level and school. We have had tremendous success with this format over many years, and the kids and the parents also have had the opportunity to meet and get to know new people in the community, and make lasting friendships and relationships.

The off-season preparation required is extensive, and we need confirmation of interest from both the kids who want to play and the volunteers needed to coach, so we can plan accordingly. We ask that if you are interested in being part of our community league this next season, you register ASAP so the process can begin immediately. This will enable us to kick off for fall when summer ends or in spring as soon as the weather allows.  Once we fill a division, registration will be closed, subject to a wait list. If you are interested in volunteering to coach, please indicate when registering your child and register the parent as a coach as well.

Q: When does the season start/end?

Q: What is the schedule for each Division?

Q: What is the commitment?

A: Players/Parents are expected to show good faith and honor their commitment to the league. Any player who cavalierly withdraws from the league after their division’s draft is subject to not being invited back to play in RFFL. We understand that some kids may have conflicts, but we ask that you refrain from signing up if you cannot prioritize attending the majority of regular-season games and the playoffs.  We understand that conflicts can arise after registration, so we will refund the registration fee, less a small transaction fee, as long as this request is made prior to our drafts, which occur a few days before the start of the season.  Once we draft, we expect everyone to play and be there for their team.

Q: Do I need to organize a group, create or join a team before registering my child?

A: No. We don't register full teams but actually work with the coaches before the season starts and split the kids up in the fairest way possible to try to avoid the “Super Team" or "Friends Team" that leaves certain kids out.  We have done this for years and we have been very successful in creating the best competitive balance possible. Please do not request team placement, as this will enable us to handle the process more efficiently. Kids may be nervous that they won't know anybody, but they very quickly make new friends from the other elementary schools and play with and against the kids they already know. Our own kids have been through this and have made best friends with kids they would not have otherwise met.

Trust us, we have done this for years and know how to make this work successfully.

Q: Can I coach?

A: Yes. The league only works with parent involvement, so please volunteer and register to coach so we can create the most successful divisions possible. Please indicate on the registration form that you would be willing to volunteer and register the parent as well. We will be in touch prior to the season if we need your assistance.

Q: Are your rules and format the same as the other flag leagues?

A: Not exactly. We are a town league that is very focused on our parents and kids, not profit. We work hard to make things consistent and convenient by paying for permits to play on our local school fields and financially supporting the district. We put a tremendous amount of personal effort into every detail of the league and are extremely hands-on. We will get to know you and your children personally and create a terrific environment for you all. We use 2-man referee crews for each game, many of whom have been working or playing with us for years and know how to make it fun, while helping the coaches and kids get the most out of the experience. We provide a safe, fun experience for everyone! Parents, you will enjoy watching it too!

Q: Are you looking for Sponsors?

A:  Yes. Local businesses and families can support the league by becoming sponsors. Sponsors are recognized on our website, registration forms, league app, lawn signs on the fields, and during our Super Bowl events. This visibility is expected to offer promotional and advertising value while also demonstrating community support for our Roslyn youth sports leagues. Sponsorships directly support league operations and help us make sure finances never prevent any child from playing.

Separately, the league contributes to community organizations every season, such as the Ethan Falkowitz & Drew Hassenbein Foundations, to honor their memory and support the incredible work being done in their names. These contributions come from the league itself, not from sponsor funds, so sponsorships are not charitable donations.

Q: What is the financial aid process?

A: No child will ever be left out because of finances. The league uses part of its budget, including sponsor support, to cover registration fees when needed. Requests for financial aid should be directed to keithrffl@gmail.com. Please include your name, phone number, and email address, and we’ll contact you within a few days. All inquiries are handled confidentially.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know, and we will respond ASAP. We are very responsive to emails and inquiries.

Thank you for all of your support, and welcome to RFFL!
