ABOUT US

Roslyn Flag Football League (RFFL) is a non-contact, no tackling or blocking league, dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable flag football experience for kids residing in the Roslyn and East Williston School Districts. Our League emphasizes fairness, sportsmanship, and community spirit by carefully forming balanced teams based on grade and skill level in collaboration with volunteer parent coaches. RFFL offers a distinct experience compared to other flag football leagues you may have encountered. Our approach to rules, referees, and team setup is designed to foster a positive and inclusive environment. Our primary motivation is to make RFFL the best community league available. We believe you will appreciate the effort, planning, communication, and attention to detail that contribute to the success of our League. Our goal is to ensure that every participant has a great experience, develops their skills, and forms lasting friendships.

Additional Info & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We put an incredible amount of time and effort into every detail of this League. We get to know you and your kids personally. Our focus from the beginning is the proper formation of teams, recruiting the best volunteer coaches and scheduling consistency with parental convenience being a top priority. We coordinate with the other Roslyn Sports organizations (Roslyn Baseball, Booster Basketball, PAL Hockey, etc.) to avoid as many conflicts as possible. Scheduling for each division will take all of these factors into account as we know what the general conflicts are for each age group as we determine the game times.

Our philosophy is to keep our team rosters manageable so every child gets to play and participate. Our rules also differ from some other leagues which for the younger kids especially are much more conducive to the enjoyment of flag football at this age. We also utilize experienced, multiple referees for each game who help the kids and coaches and have been part of RFFL for many years.

We have created the right blend of competitiveness while emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork and having a great experience. Unlike other leagues, we do not register full rosters. We do not create “all star” teams or “friends” teams but rather the league coordinates everything and we work together with the parent coaches prior to the season to split the kids up in each division with the goal of creating fair and balanced teams by grade/skill level and school. We have had tremendous success with this format over many years and the kids and the parents also have had the opportunity to meet and get to know new people in the community and make lasting friendships and relationships.

The off-season preparation required is extensive and we need confirmation of interest from both the kids who want to play and the volunteers needed to coach so we can plan accordingly. We ask if you are interested in being part of our community league this Fall that you register ASAP so the process can begin immediately and we are ready to kick off when the summer ends. Once we fill a division, registration will be closed subject to a wait list. If you are interested in volunteering to coach please indicate when registering your child and register the parent as coach as well.

Q: What is the committment?

A: Players/Parents are expected to show good faith and honor their commitment to the league. Any player who cavalierly withdraws from the league after their division’s draft is subject to not being invited back to play the following season. We understand some kids have conflicts but we ask that you do not sign up if you cannot prioritize showing up to the majority of the regular season games and the playoffs.

Q: Do I need to organize a group, create or join a team before registering my child?

A: No. We don't register full teams but actually work with the coaches before the season starts and split the kids up in the fairest way possible to try and avoid the “Super Team" or "Friends Team" that leaves certain kids out.  We have done this for years and we have been very successful in creating the best competitive balance possible. Please do not request team placement so we can best handle this process. Kids may be nervous that they won't know anybody but they very quickly make new friends from the other elementary schools and play with and against the kids they already know. Our own kids have been through this and have made best friends with kids they would not have otherwise met.

Trust us, we have done this for years and know how to make this work successfully.

Q: Can I coach?

A: Yes. The league only works with parent involvement so please volunteer and register to coach so we can create the most successful divisions possible. Please indicate on the registration form that you would be willing to volunteer and register the parent as well. We will be in touch prior to the season if we need your assistance.

Q: Are your rules and format the same as the other flag leagues?

A: Not exactly. We are a town league that is very focused on our parents and kids, not profit. We work hard in making things consistent and convenient by paying for permits to play on our local school fields and financially support the district. We put a tremendous amount of personal effort into every detail of the league and are extremely hands-on. We will get to know you and your children personally and create a terrific environment for you all. We use 2 man referee crews for each game that have been working with us for years and know how to make it fun and help the coaches and kids to get the most out of the experience. We provide a safe, fun experience for everyone! Parents, you will enjoy watching it too!

Q: Are you looking for Sponsors?

A: Yes we are. There are some kids that need financial help to pay for the registration fees and we make sure finances never prevent any child from playing. We also look for corporate sponsors who will be featured on our, fields,  equipment, website and Super Bowl so please email us if you would be willing to sponsor or know someone who needs help with the registration fees. We also make donations to charities and organizations that are near and dear to our community especially the Ethan Falkowitz & Drew Hassenbein Foundations to continue to honor the memory of these special boys and support the  amazing work that is being done so your participation supports these great causes!

Q: What is the financial aid process?

A: Requests for Financial Aid should be directed to keithrffl@gmail.com. Simply supply your name, phone number and email address and we will contact you within a few days. All inquiries will be handled confidentially.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know and we will get back to you ASAP. We are very responsive to emails and inquiries.

Thank you for all of your support and welcome to RFFL!
